QR Code Refresh: Securing Reward Redemption Codes

Reward QR codes can now be set to automatically refresh every 5 minutes, preventing customers from screenshotting and sharing their code with others. Here's how it works and how to turn it on.

Overview

To help protect your loyalty program from fraud, Appfront now supports QR Code Refresh for reward redemption. When enabled, a customer's reward QR code is only valid for 5 minutes. After it expires, the customer must generate a new code before it can be scanned and redeemed.

This makes it much harder for a customer to screenshot their QR code and send it to someone else, since an expired screenshot can no longer be redeemed.

How It Works for Customers

  1. The customer logs in to your app and taps Scan at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Their reward QR code appears, along with a note that it's valid for 5 minutes.

  3. Once the 5 minutes are up, the customer is given the option to generate a new code, which refreshes the QR code and restarts the 5-minute window.

How to Enable QR Code Refresh

  1. Log in to the Appfront portal.

  2. In the left-hand navigation, go to Engagement Features.

  3. Scroll down until you see Signed Reward QR.

  4. Check the box for Generate Signed Reward — Signed QR codes for reward redemption that are valid for 5 minutes.

Once enabled, all customer reward QR codes will automatically refresh every 5 minutes going forward.
