Multi-Step Challenges You Can Market as an Event

Webinar recap: how to build a multi-step challenge with a clear start, finish line, and visual progress that you can promote like a real event.

Written by Sarah Appfront

Multi-step challenges are built to be marketed as an event: they have a defined beginning and end (for example, 30 days starting from your launch date, not a rolling window), which makes them easy to promote through social media, a QR code, or a deep link.

Underneath, these run on AppFront's group mechanic: a campaign applies to a group, and that group can display a badge or image. As a customer completes each step, they move into a new group tied to a new badge or image — which is what creates the visual sense of progress through the challenge.

A few ready-to-adapt examples from the webinar:

  • 30-Day Restaurant Challenge — a 30-day window combining a visit, trying an LTO, ordering a combo, visiting during a slow day part, and hitting a total spend. These stack: a customer might complete the combo purchase and the monthly special in the same visit and already be more than halfway through.

  • Menu Explorer — purchasing from every menu category, either across visits or within one, depending on how you configure it.

  • VIP Challenge — 5 visits, $100 in spend, and 2 featured-item purchases, rewarded with 500 points and a VIP-tier reward (merchandise is a common choice).

Because these need real creative and planning, build them at least a quarter ahead rather than launching on short notice — treat the planning and asset prep as part of the challenge, not an afterthought.
