How to Issue a Refund

The steps to issue a refund depend on the payment processor your restaurant uses.

Use the section below that matches your payment processor.


Stripe, Square, and Clover

If your restaurant uses Stripe, Square, or Clover for payment processing, you can issue refunds directly from your Appfront Dashboard.

To issue a refund:

  1. Log in to your Appfront Dashboard.

  2. Select Advanced Settings.

  3. Open the Activity Log.

  4. Find the transaction you would like to refund.

  5. Select the transaction.

  6. Click Refund.

  7. Review the refund details.

  8. Click Confirm to complete the refund.

Tip: If you can't find the transaction, try expanding your date range or searching by the customer's name or transaction details.


Toast Payments

If your restaurant uses Toast Payments, refunds cannot be processed from the Appfront Dashboard.

Instead, you'll need to process the refund directly in your Toast POS.

Shift4

If your restaurant uses Shift4, refunds cannot be processed from the Appfront Dashboard.

Instead, you'll need to process the refund directly within your Shift4 account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I issue a refund in Appfront?

Some payment processors manage refunds within their own systems for security and compliance reasons.

If your restaurant uses Toast Payments or Shift4, refunds must be completed in those platforms.

If you use Stripe, Square, or Clover through Appfront, refunds can be processed directly from the Appfront Dashboard.


I received an error while processing a refund. What should I do?

  • Stripe, Square, or Clover: Contact the Appfront Support Team if you receive an error while processing a refund in the Appfront Dashboard.

  • Toast Payments: Contact Toast Support.

  • Shift4: Contact Shift4 Support.


How long does a refund take?

Most refunds begin processing right away, but it may take 3 to 10 business days for the funds to appear on your customer's statement, depending on their bank or card issuer.
