Menu Sync Explained

Appfront syncs the menu automatically from the POS. It should mimic the menu buildout from Toast. Appfront is pulling the menu entries that are visible to Toast Online Ordering. Therefore, all menu management should be done on the Toast side.

In case the Menu isn't Syncing

If you notice that the menu in Appfront does not match the menu in the POS, make sure the menu in the POS is "saved" and "published." Only when saved and published, does Appfront get a notification from the POS about the menu update.


Note: a menu sync that does not require any manual publishing is '86' - or out-of-stock

How to sync the POS menu with Appfront:

There are two ways to run a menu sync

Option 1: From the POS - hit "Save" and "Publish."

Under the publish config, click on publish changes

Option 2: Run a menu sync from Appfront's portal

Under the locations tab, select the location and click the pink button that says "Menu Sync." You can also see some useful data regarding the last sync time.

How long should take the menu sync?

It should take up to 15 minutes

Why are menu items (breakfast/Dinner/Other) not showing?

There might be a few reasons that your menu might not show up.

  1. Check that your Toast menu is "Saved" and "Published".

    Appfront receives a menu update from Toast only when the menu is saved and published. Once you click that, Appfront receives a notification, and a menu update is processed (which should take up to 15 minutes)

  2. Check your menu visibility

    Appfront only syncs the menu items that are visible on the Toast Online platform. As long as these items are visible, we will synchronize them. To display the menu items on the Appfront platform (including the app and online ordering), you need to enable the items for online ordering in Toast's back office.

    To do this, go to "Advanced Properties." In the Show/Hide drop-down menu on the right side of the screen, select 'Visible To.' Each menu category or item you want to sync with Appfront must be set to visible to 'Toast.'

    If you would like us to pull menus associated with different visibility options, such as Partners, please contact the Support or Integrations team for assistance.

  3. Menu category hours

    Menu hours can be synced from Toast directly but can also be overridden from Appfront's portal. Make sure no one overrides it on Appfront's portal.

  4. Menu category visibility

    Menu categories can be retrieved from Toast, but they can be overridden and marked as hidden in the Appfront portal. Please make sure this is not the case.
